Overwhelmed by meal prep? Try this instead

What if I told you that healthy eating doesn’t have to feel complicated or take up hours of your time?

I know it can be overwhelming — we live in a world with endless nutrition advice and it’s too easy to feel paralyzed by all of the options.

And after 18 years of helping busy adults to feel stronger and more confident than ever before...

I’ve realized that the key to making it all work is to keep it SIMPLE.

Here are a few of my favorite ways to make your nutrition feel easy and doable, even when life gets busy:

  1. Use the “Plate Method.”

Instead of worrying about counting every calorie, try:

  • Fill half your plate with colorful veggies (asparagus, peppers, broccoli, etc)
  • A quarter with quality protein (chicken, turkey, beef, tempeh, etc)
  • And the last quarter with a healthy carb (fruit, brown rice, quinoa, oatmeal, etc)
  • Add a drizzle of healthy fats like olive oil or some avocado

It’s easy to customize and this works whether you’re meal-prepping or eating on the go!

  1. Have 3-5 Go-To Meals on Rotation.

When you’re short on time (and hungry!), it’s way too easy to grab whatever’s convenient. That’s why I recommend having a rotation of quick, nutritious meals ready to make on the fly.

For me, that looks like:

  • Overnight oats protein packets that I make in a shaker bottle the night before so it’s grab and go in the morning.
  • Quinoa and brown rice steamable pouches and pre-cut steak bites for a quick lunch.
  • Salad bags and rotisserie chicken for a simple, no-prep meal.
  1. Batch-Prep What Matters Most.

If a large meal prep session feels like it’s too much, just prep a couple of basics!

Roast a tray of veggies or cook a batch of chicken breasts that you can use throughout the week.

The goal isn’t to be perfect — but to make healthy eating as simple as possible.

Your healthy habits should work for YOU, not the other way around.
